Not every dental issue is caused by bacteria, diet, or trauma. Even the most diligent brushers and flossers can damage their teeth through poor habits—habits in which they do not realize they engage. Endodontic treatment may be necessary when teeth become worn down. Be sure to watch the video below about treating cracked teeth to learn more about the treatment you may require if you regularly clench or grind your teeth.
Treating Cracked Teeth
Today’s stress-filled life causes many of us to clench and grind our teeth, and these habits can cause fractures—the worst issue that our office currently treats. Tiny cracks cause nerves to become sensitive and make the teeth flex. As cracks widen, bacteria can get into a tooth and cause infection. At our practice, we first examine a cracked tooth microscopically to determine the crack’s extent and exact location, and we then prepare minor, superficial cracks for immediate restorative treatment by the patient’s dentist. If a crack is extensive and jeopardizes a successful prognosis, we may discuss extraction and replacement options with a patient and her or his dentist.
